Increasingly, companies have to deal with the difficult task of manufacturing their products faster and more economically while maintaining high quality standards. Therefore, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) have become more and more important. They provide transparency
in production and offer tools to effectively support a continuous improvement process.
Smart MES Applications (SMA) by MPDV represent another milestone in the development of MES solutions. SMA combines the versatile functions of the HYDRA office client (MOC) with the data collection functions of the HYDRA shop floor client (AIP) and makes the data available on mobile devices.

The integrated and modularly structured MES HYDRA is MPDV’s core product. It provides for a smooth flow of information between the technical manufacturing level and the commercial ERP and management levels. In addition, HYDRA supports productionrelated departments with various functions for data collection, information flow, evaluation and planning.

MPDV has implemented an entirely new client philosophy for MES systems with SMA, taking into account the current requirements of IT based systems. Using existing HYDRA mechanisms to access the central production database has been a priority as well as an intuitive operating concept based on the common design concepts of tablet PCs and smart phones. In addition, a focus has been put on the use of standardized elements and the development of cross-platform solutions.

Smart MES Applications at a Glance
SMA provides an overview of the available functions on the start page. The user can open different MES applications for which he/she is authorized. The individual SMA design depends on which MES applications are required within the departments of the company and the information to be displayed. Therefore, users have access to all required data on their devices. Depending on the resolution and size
of the display, available applications are displayed with more or less detail, ranging from just icons to detailed descriptions.
The user can adjust and save layout settings via a customizing mode, if required.
Examples of SMA functions
The following MES applications are available as SMA on mobile devices:
Contacts with presence/absence status indicator
The contacts option provides a list instantly showing the employees who are present and absent. Hence, it becomes easy to contact a particular person within the company by simply clicking on the relevant email address or phone number (this feature depends on the functions provided by your mobile device).
Time and Attendance
The mobile time and attendance application provides the most important functions: clockin/clockout and business errands. This feature allows users to enter their working hours from virtually anywhere.
Production
The mobile production monitor provides information about machinery and current orders being processed. Further detailed information is displayed by clicking on current orders or a person who is logged on.
Key Performance Indicators
SMA can be used to display data pertaining to production, HR and quality data that is recorded by HYDRA graphically as compressed key figures. Further details (“Drill Down”) are displayed when the user clicks on specific graphic elements or diagrams.
Maintenance
The mobile maintenance calendar provides information about upcoming maintenance work. These events are highlighted in different levels and colors to enable staff to track
upcoming maintenance events.
Complaints
SMA allows for complaints to be created and processed further. It is also possible to work simultaneously with the HYDRA office client. A colored flag indicates the status of a complaint.
