Performance Monitoring – Automotive and Transportation

Constant high quality is of the utmost importance in the manufacture of vehicles and components. Applications range from the simple monitoring of joining processes through analysis of force/displacement curves to end-of-line tests of entire assemblies, such as the functional testing of a ventilation system. The procedure always focuses on the complete test including the sequential control. Our intelligent controllers combine measurement technology with automation systems, including individual human-machine interfacing (HMI).

In addition to production control, this application area comprises the monitoring of countless processes within the wide scope of “transportation”. Typical examples are…

Waterways

Monitoring the opening and closing operations of large lock-gates/sluices by measuring and monitoring the force required in the hydraulic drives. This enables foreign objects to be detected within the area of the gates.

Railroads

Regular monitoring of railroad track is carried out by means of special test runs. The relevant parameters, particularly vibrations, forces and displacement are continuously measured and recorded. Simultaneous detection of positioning data (GPS) enables the exact location of identified damage.

Passenger transportation

Driverless trains are being increasingly used for short-haul transportation routes, e.g. airport shuttles, subways. For reasons of safety, comfort and liability, critical measurements such as acceleration and force data must be continuously recorded on all journeys and sent via modem to a central server after each trip.
